Dear Hillcrest Parents, Caregivers, and Community,
Thank you for providing me the chance to work with and serve our incredibly creative, capable, and compassionate scholars. Our students are eager learners, sharp, and resilient. Their giftedness and genius is undeniable. I am honored and grateful to be the Hillcrest principal.
My commitment to you is to ensure that the children at Hillcrest benefit from exemplary programs, instructionally and operationally, to provide you with a world class educational experience. The Hillcrest team promises to work hard to ensure that our scholars make significant academic progress and social and emotional growth advancing them toward becoming their best selves.
Our end-of-year test scores improved this year, where we crossed the 20% of students having met and exceeded standard threshold for the first time. Still, this means that 4 of 5 students tested are not meeting the mark, though a sizable number are close. The greatest gains were made in mathematics due to our teachers using a powerful mathematics framework known as Cognitively Guided Instruction (CGI), through a partnership with UCLA. The precision in pedagogy that resulted from focused training and collaboration resulted in improved test scores and academic achievement of our scholars. We look forward to continuing the upward trend this year.
I will be communicating with you frequently about events and programs that you will be invited to or can engage with this year. One new way of communicating important news, dates, alerts, and events is through our new, free school app for Android and iOS mobile devices. Go to your App Store and search for School News by Edlio. You will then be able to download the app, select Hillcrest, and have vital info right in the palm of your hand. Don’t forget that right here at the school's website is also a great place to stay in the loop on all things happening at Hillcrest.
If you have any questions or concerns about this school year, please don’t hesitate to let me know. You have multiple ways to communicate with me. Call the school at 323-296-6867, email me or complete a parent concern form in the main office. I will always put children first. You have my word.
I am looking forward to partnering with you this year to make Hillcrest a great school.
