Hillcrest celebrated its role as a hub in the community at our annual Family and Community Day on Saturday, May 18. We decided to host the event at Jim Gilliam Park in the neighborhood just north of the school. It was a great decision! Community Day was wonderful. Children and adults alike enjoyed one another's company as we had all kinds of fun, lots of really tasty food, and created a truly positive vibe. Concerns about holding the event at the park were unfounded and the day went off without a hitch until we lost power at the very end.
Thank you to KJLH 102.3, our community radio station for providing the fantastic sounds that brought folks out of their homes to join us, Earle's Grill and JR Tacos for the great grub, Kona Ice for the cool shaved ice treats and rescuing us by providing the power for the event.
Much gratitude to everyone who worked hard to make day special, especially Ms. James, our coordinator, for organizing the day, and our beloved Ms. White, who came out of retirement to support us with ticket sales and her always warm, loving disposition.
We can't wait to do it bigger and even better next year!
