Greater parent engagement and involvement has always been desired at Hillcrest. It appears that this is the year that we will see a substantial increase in the number of parents empowered to help create a better school for all of us.
We began the week with a superb parent training that was jointly led by LAUSD's Parent Engagement Unit and our Hillcrest Parent Center Directors, Ms. Velasquez and Ms. White. The parent center was full as Local District West Parent Education Coach Christina Guzy presented important information about our parent volunteer program. It was so effective that we had 35 parents apply to become Hillcrest parent volunteers!
Then later in the week, Happy Hour with the Principal brought a really robust turnout to our school library for fun "mocktails", hors d'ouevres, appetizers, and vital collaboration with Mr. Jackson about issues of concern to parents.
More Parent Education Workshops will be hosted in our parent center and monthly meetings with the principal will ensure that parents' voices are heard throughout the year. We hope that even more parents and caregivers will join us since one hallmark of a great school is great parent involvement.
Until then enjoy the pictures of these first two parent meetings of the year.
